Our History, Mission & Purpose
Moving Beyond explaining ourselves to a binary society
MyGenderIsX.com was born out of frustration: frustration with how difficult it can be to find diverse non-binary perspectives, frustration with non-binary conversations being focused on explaining our existence to cis-gendered societies, and frustration with non-binary identity being a footnote of the larger LGBTQI movement.
Non-binary persons need spaces which are for, by, and about them - exclusively - so that deeper conversations about our experiences and needs can take place. We need spaces where the wide diversity of intersectional experiences, preferences, and lifestyles within the enby community can be found, celebrated, and featured at the forefront of our movement. We need spaces where tough questions and debates about being enby and our needs can be presented within a safe, like-minded community so that we can become stronger, together. MyGenderIsX.com seeks to be one of those spaces.
Currently, enby opinions and perspectives are scattered to the wind or, at best, shoe-horned in with other, semi-related issues; we’re a subsection of a subsection, a micro-category of gender-related news or gay news and considered an un-understood oddity. In most places in the U.S. and the world, our existence is barely acknowledged, is not legally recognized, and our perspectives are not considered important. It’s time that we stop being an oddity and start better supporting each other and our community needs. Together, we can create a vivid network of international, intersectional non-binary advocacy - but it starts with better listening to each other.
If you are a non-binary person, please consider contributing to MyGenderIsX.com. What you contribute doesn’t have to be fancy, detailed, or unique - it just needs to be personal to you. You are enough. You don’t need to be known, published elsewhere, a frontrunner of your field, or anything else. It’s enough for you to be non-binary, have an opinion or a topic that you are passionate about that relates to our enby community at large, or have news that you want to share with other enby persons.
Thank you so much for visiting MyGenderIsX.com. We hope you’ll join us.
With Love,
The Volunteer Team, MyGenderIsX.com
