Lipstick Has No Gender: Art by JTC
Content summary: make-up, gender alignment, misgendering, anxiety, bodies, self-expression.
Non-binary people (and everyone else) should express themselves however they want - make-up or no!
This cute piece from artist JTC is direct and to the point: all people should have access to the fabulousness that is fun lipstick, regardless of any gender alignment - but especially so for those on the non-binary spectrum.
From the artist: It can be difficult for people to experiment with make-up because of the association that make-up is feminine. It can be make non-binary womxn or female-bodied enby persons worry that they will be misgendered by taking part in something traditionally “femme” and it can make non-binary mxn or male-bodied enby persons worried that they will be mistaken as binary transwomxn or “femme”, which may not align with how they feel or want o be seen.
It took me a long time to begin experimenting with make-up because I was worried about these types of things. Now, I experiment with make-up and am blessed to be surrounded by a wide variety of enby persons and non-gender conforming persons who play with make-up, regardless of their gender alignment. It’s very refreshing and empowering - and most of all, it’s fun!
